Buying a Home Without an Agent

Besides the duties of helping athletes with athlete relocation, we at Sportsrelocation.com are also licensed real estate agents, and as such we often help people from all walks of life with their real estate needs.  We have been asked often about the advantages and disadvantages of buying a home without an agent.  Let’s look at a few main points regarding that question.

Without a doubt, the number one advantaged of buying a home without an agent is that you save paying the agent a percentage of the sales price.  However, the disadvantages far outnumber the advantage in this case.

Buying a home without an agent means you’ll have to do your own negotiating, and quite frankly that could cost you thousands of dollars in the transaction.  Buying a home without an agent means you have no market specialist to rely on, and you risk the danger of not receiving all the seller’s disclosures.  You also risk paying higher closing costs as well as you will have to wade through a pile of complicated legal paperwork, paperwork you are unqualified to understand or handle.

Yes, it is tempting to do so, especially when dealing with celebrity real estate where the savings might be hundreds of thousands of dollars, but the flip side of that argument is you might lose hundreds of thousands, if not millions, in the sale or purchase of luxury real estate.

Is it worth the risk?  Wouldn’t you rather have a pro in your corner for such an important financial decision?

Of course you would!
