NFL Transactions: One Team, One Day, Thirty-One Lives Affected

NFL transactions continue as the final cuts for the 2017 season just occurred, bringing each team down to the mandated 53-man roster. One sentence quickly summarizing a flurry of activity.  To drive home this point, let’s take a look at the New York Giants and the transactions they put into motion on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

The Giants acquired CB Ross Cockrell from Pittsburgh for a conditional 2018 draft pick.  They also place LB Mark Herzlich and DL Josh Banks on injured reserve.  On the same day they waived the following:  Shaun Draughn, Devin Taylor, and Adam Bisnowaty.  They also released Josh Johnson, Mike Nugent, Will Tye, Khalid Abdullah, Jacob Huesman, Travis Rudolph, Jerome Lane, Canaan Severin, Marquis Bunday, Ed Eagan, Aam Bisnowaty, Jon Halapio, Jarron Jones, Matt Rotheram, Devin Taylor, Bobby Richardson, Jordan Williams, Deontae Skinner, Stansly Maponga, Curtis Grant, Donte Deayon, DaShaun Amos, Nigel Tribune, Ryan Murphy, and Trey Robinson.

All in one day! Thirty-one players packing their bags and heading, either home, or to another team; that is the NFL reality.  The player relocation merry-go-round continues.

One team, one day, and thirty-one lives affected; fifty-three men, fifty-three NFL Transactions, who will call New York their home for the next week, month, or perhaps the entire season; thirty-one men who face an uncertain future.

Such is the life of an NFL player.  For every success story you hear about large contracts and bonuses, there are countless other stories about struggling just to stay on the NFL radar and be noticed.
